Set to launch in spring 2022, Téléo, Toulouse’s cable car system, marks the initial phase of a broader initiative to enhance public transportation across the city’s southern regions. Outstripping Brest’s aerial tramway, Téléo takes the title of the longest urban cable car system in France, featuring 34-passenger cabins that span a distance of 3 km. The route strategically connects three pivotal hubs: the Oncopôle cancer research center, Rangueil university hospital, and Paul Sabatier university, which accommodates over 30,000 students.
Considering the high daily passenger demand—exceeding 8,000 people—Tisséo, the entity managing Toulouse’s public transport, opted for a cable car solution. This choice allows for efficient, cost-effective transportation while deftly navigating the area’s natural challenges, like the Garonne River and Pech David hill—obstacles that traditional forms of transport like the metro or streetcar can’t easily overcome.
