On Monday, May 1st, Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader inaugurated the second urban cable car line in Santo Domingo.
Continuing its commitment to expand public transportation and soft mobility options, the city has introduced a new 4.20 km link connecting to the metro. The T2 line, featuring four stations, connects the city center to the western suburbs, where 400,000 residents live.
Operating at a speed of 7 m/s and a capacity of 4,500 passengers per hour in each direction, this urban monocable system now stands as the world’s fastest and most efficient.
SIGMA, a subsidiary of POMA, a world leader in the field of cable transportation, once again lent its expertise to design and build this innovative, sustainable mobility solution in the heart of the urban jungle. After two years of construction, thousands gathered this morning to be among the inaugural riders on the new line.
We’re grateful to our customer for their continued trust in us for this remarkable cable mobility project for the Dominican capital, especially as work begins on a third line in the country’s north. Kudos to all our teams, who tirelessly work to deliver outstanding mobility solutions that serve an ever-growing user base, all while prioritizing environmental sustainability.
